This is what Xbox causes!!

Been in our new house 2 weeks now...
I'd like to say we've sorted this lot out, but I'd have a bigger nose than pinocchio. The young man Ed bought the house from was a single man, owned a woofa and loved his xbox - a bit too much if you ask me! I've never been in such a dirty house.. inch thick grime stuck with dog hair everywhere, ripped grey curtains that were once white and boy, it stunk. I think there were some things alive in there, esp in the bathroom!! Oh, and a little matter of finding out the toilet didnt work (not that I bring myself to put my bum on it anyway!), the heating broke after a few days and when we pulled up the carpets all over (had to, health hazard because so dirty!) we found the carpets were holding the stairs together and they are coming off the wall!! I dont think any DIY, maintenance or any cleaning has been done here in a very very long time.. Bleach is turning out to be my new best friend.. Still, despite it all, its good to be back south and will be a lovely little house when its done.. its in a conservation area with some wonderful old listed buildings surrounding us and its feels like a nice place to live until we do it up and sell on :-)

@blightygal Is THAT what they told you........!!!!!!!!!
March 14th, 2012
@andycoleborn I knew the area before we looked, cheeky b! I know Harlow is rubbish when I worked nearby for local paper, but this bit isnt too bad, with the added bonus of never ever having to go into the town center as everything we need is nearby, inc a decent pub :-)

Oh, and its all we could afford, for a cash sale - North-South divide might have a lot to do with it!!

Ugh, the joys of moving into a new place. I don't envy you! I hope it's all done soon!

You make it sound so enticing - actually that sounds just like our flat! Glad you can see the light at the end of the (grimy) tunnel ....

Congratulations on your move and stay strong for the clean up. Looking forward to see the progress.

Sounds like you have a huge job ahead of you - Good Luck!

the filthy git! good luck with the restoration
March 14th, 2012
@islawight Ha ha, its ok when its your own grime!!
March 14th, 2012
Oooh - our house was like that when we moved in - everything we touched fell apart. And I made the mistake of wiping the brown kitchen tiles and discovering that they were in fact white... Still real proper filth is satisfying to clean up I reckon - I'd lend you 'How Clean is Your House' if we lived nearer. I was given it as a joke but it's actually pretty good!! And before I read your blurb I was going to say it looks very nice!

@judithg ewww over your tiles, you poor thing! Its grim huh? I have no idea why people dont look after their houses, its the most expensive thing anyone would ever buy! Thanks for the top tip over the book, think will go have a look at amazon and see if they have a cheap copy '-)

@blightygal Just thinking mine needs a good bottoming - it's a bit of a thankless task with teenagers leaving stuff all over. If I spent less time looking at photos I'd get my cupboards done!
March 15th, 2012
@judithg Photo's much much much more fun! And if your kids anything like myself and my three brothers were, it would be never ending as well as thankless, lol.
March 15th, 2012
