Had someone from the Met come around on Tues to take a statement over a news of the world story I did, 10 years ago, and I made him his coffee in this mug. Well, it gave me some amusement anyway!
Initially I tried to be helpful, told them everything I could think of and off he went, I thought happy. I didnt sign it because I wanted a copy, which he couldnt do until he got back to London.
Then the questions really started the next day. Trying to put words in my mouth and making me feel very uneasy indeed. He also asked for tiny details from 10 years ago, and I would be shocked if anyone would remember stuff from so long ago..
So the outcome is that I have backed off, and will take my time thinking about signing it. I dont have to, its not a legal requirement. Its little wonder the police have a bad rep and I will think long and hard before I ever agree to help them again.
Ha ha this tickled me, wonder if he saw the humour! Bah to the ridiculousness of the situation, having watched the hillsborough disaster drama since those docs came live, I was appalled at how the police seemed to cover some stuff up and over egg stuff that wasn't even relevant. Hope you're doing ok
Hmmm... don't mind being helpful to the old bill when they are polite etc, but as soon as they start acting like arseholes (which more often then not they do), I can't be bothered with them either...
Well you wont be passing go and collecting two hundred pound eh if you're not gonna be helpful ;-) I jest of course.
Hope all is ok, apart from cops racking your brains from 10 years ago, the shits.
Hmmm - well 20 years ago my father-in-law was involved in a social services enquiry and the hidden agendas and underhand tactics were absolutely shocking. Not police then mind but ultimately a political agenda wanting a predetermined outcome even if it wasn't the truth. Well you shall have to find a crappy old mug for next time he comes!
@judithg I need a leaky one '-)
Interesting over your FIL, I bet that was such an eye-opener.. Yeah, I think these cops are following the same thinking as those social services folk, just want me to say what they want to hear. Told the copper on Friday that he is trying to put words in my mouth, and I'll do it my way or not at all. Happy cop? No!
Ooo err....sadly a couple of close relatives experiences over the last couple of years in NZ has shown a tick the box mentality like there are targets they are aiming for which reduces people immediately to just numbers and the cops to school yard bullies. Where has the sense of vocation gone in the job.
