I took this photo a few days ago and I just noticed today that this bush totally died for no apparent reason. I typically have bad luck with just about everything that I plant in the front yard that I should probably give up planting anything there. A few years ago, my biggest agave got attacked by snout weevils and those things smelled so foul that it grossed me out. I think those little buggers are still in the ground and eating all the roots of everything that I plant out there.

do your neighbours surreptitiously poison? could be something underground such as compacted soil, we have a spot where trees have died one after the other, after our son spilt car oil there
@kali66 Ya, I'm not sure. It just seems like a dead zone. Third tree/bush I planted in that hole, and nothing seems to last longer than two years. I'm also thinking that maybe there was a pine tree in that spot before I moved in. Often times, pine trees mess up the desert soil here, so I'm thinking maybe I'll have to plant something that likes acid soil (rather than alkaline) but acid stuff tends to like more water, which I'm reluctant to provide. grrrr.
