North America's rarest plant

Catalina Island Mountain Mahogany.

I encountered this species at the California Botanical Garden in Claremont, CA. There are only seven known individuals left in the wild on California's Santa Catalina Island. Grazers such as goats, mule deer, and pigs contributed to the decrease in population numbers and led Catalina Island mountain-mahogany to be named one of the rarest shrubs in North America.

I was really impressed with this garden, especially its rare plants section: https://www.calbg.org/visit/whats-beautiful-today
