Sometimes when I get off of work, these little guys are grazing on the grass outside the hospital grounds. They are wild javelinas, related to a pig. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peccary Some people love them and some can't stand them. I think that they are cute but I am glad that I don't have any in my neighborhood because they are known to chew on wires and will munch on just about anything.
One of the things I really love about 365 is following people from all over the world and seeing life through their camera lens. Never even heard of a javelina before.
@jocasta I feel the same way when I come across some very unexpected photos on this site. ...which, btw, seeing javelinas is actually never anticipated as they tend to live in areas with more natural desert habitat. They can be found around the hospital only because there is a maintained 'greenbelt' that runs past it. Grass is not native here, and all grass is planted and has to be manually maintained. My husband has lived in Arizona on and off for most of his 40 years and has yet to see a javelina that is not in a zoo. I took this pic with my phone and sent it to him and he was so miffed!
Cute picture.
