I happened to be in Perigueux, France right as the Tour de France was rolling into town. I quickly learned that the Tour de France is mostly about the sponsors. There was a 'car parade' hosted by the bike sponsors. It was surprisingly fun to watch and they tossed around little promo items...dish soap packets, chicken magnets, food samples, and my personal favorite was the plastic cow key chain that smacked me right in the chest. People were whipping the items into the crowds. It was loud, it was crazy, it was fun.
What a great thing to experience! I think most sports these days are about sponsorship, especially something like the Tour de france where they come through one area are so quickly!
