The Phoenix Art Museum is currently hosting a major Teotihuacan exhibit. Words can not barely even begin to convey how fascinating this mysterious culture was. This large fragment was destroyed in antiquity when marauders sacked the city for reasons unknown. This mask thingamajig was no small object of veneration, for it was once predominately displayed in front of a pyramid and was perhaps worshiped as a god. It once had an obsidian blade for a nose...a blade likely used to sacrifice people in dedication to this being. Ya. Be glad none of us were born back then. http://www.phxart.org/exhibition/teotihuacan
