Ruby Red Lips by bluemoon

Ruby Red Lips

Isn't that what everyone calls female Cardinals??? :) She visited the Birch in the backyard on and off all afternoon so I figured she wanted her picture taken. Not as sharp as I'd like but I'm behind on my 2nd album so she's going to be my pic of the day! :)
Word has gotten through the trees of your bird portraits.
They're all so nice.

Ah that's a female one - the things you learn here - beautiful composition.

I'd never thought of the female being plain coloured. Silly really, that often happens, perhaps it never occurred that you could have a female cardinal! ...even sillier ;-)

It's a nice shot.

Love it. She looks so cozy there tucked in the branches. Softness of the background is lovely.

She's gorgeous! I'd also like to know how you're attracting them - my feeders are getting no action!

@individuality_a @jobesekama @digitalrn @maggie2 @stepheesue @stepheesue @joshwindswept Thanks so much for all your nice comments! It's nearly impossible to take a bad picture of these beautiful birds....I wish I were half as photogenic as they are! :)

@kathyd Sometimes it takes time for them to realize you've put food out plus we live out in the country so there aren't any other feeders to draw them away! :) Bad weather will always bring them in, usually in large numbers.. I always mix Black Oil Sunflower with some sunflower hearts, cracked corn, a fruit & nut mixture and then mix it all together in a great big rubbermaid garbage can. I also put out suet cakes for the Woodpeckers and thistle for the finches. If you feed them they will come....eventually! :)

@wac @juhlin @islawight Thanks @peggysirk @barbsmith @bugik @foxout @blueburn11 @robinwarner THANK YOU! :) These pretty red birds do make my life so much easier when they show up to have their picture taken and I don't have to go outside to brave the cold looking for my picture of the day either! :)

@ellida Thank you Graham for always leaving such nice comments! It's just soooo not fair that all those poor females are so drab and dreary when their mates are all pretty and bright! :)

Love the fact that the bird is the only thing sharp! Beautiful. The only time I see birds like this, it's in a Zoo...
