I had to put on the thinking cap for today's picture since the weather outside was so drippy & dreary! With highs in the 40's and rain today the beautiful snowy scenes of a couple days ago were melting & muddy so since landscapes are out tonight I decided an exercise in light, shadows & silhouettes would have to do...shot with a Nikon D90! :)
This is such a great picture Paula. Please tell me you didn't just put the tripod and camera against the wall with a light and snap a couple pictures and ta-da!! In my strive to get a silhouette shot, I had a couple shadow shots set up, but my front prop always captured too much of the light and ended up looking distorted. It got really frustrating. Your picture is amazing, and I love the editing. It gives it a vintage feel!
Paula, you are so creative. What is funny is that last night I was looking at my tripod and thinking I could get a silhouette shot of it. But then it looked sort of boring. Your use of the shadow is wonderful. Love it!
@petersonsheri Thank you Sheri, I appreciate your comments a lot! I shot this the first time and the camera lens was totally blurry so I shot it again using different settings but then the camera was too well lit and showed quite clearly so wasn't really a silhouette. Tried a 3rd time and though it wasn't exactly what I had in mind I was too lazy to try again. It was definitely a balancing act trying to capture both the camera/tripod set up and the shadow without one or the other being distorted. I love how this project has totally opened my eyes to new ideas when it comes to using my camera! I used to set it on auto and whatever came out of the camera was what I had. Now it's just the first step because for the first time I'm actually beginning to contemplate other possible settings to get the picture I see in my head and I've had dslr's for probably 10 years without ever exploring all the possibilities photography has to offer! :)
