Walking on the heath

Lovely light on Hampstead Heath this evening.

Non-working day so had a lie-in - but still turned out to be quite a busy day.

After breakfast, we walked to the park and I did my own little Pilates session on the grass and then a few things in the green gym. Then I walked on to Hoe Street to the Italian deli and gift shop, looking for birthday presents.

I lost Dave to the craft beer shop so I walked on to the sorting office and picked up my parcel. It had gradually begun getting more sultry and overcast - and by this time it was spotting rain.

Picked up a 'pound a bowl' bunch of bananas from the market then started walking back with rumbles of thunder getting a bit more frequent. Managed to make it home before the torrential downpours started.

We rested up for a bit - I did some 365 pics uploading, then Dave cooked up some fishfingers
for us.

We then left to do another memorial walk for Kathy. It was still quite hot and unfortunately the route Citymapper had offered me turned out to be a bit of a pain as the platform at St Pancras for the Thameslink was totally mobbed. We had to very forcefully barge our way on otherwise we wouldn't have made it on time.

At West Hampstead, we got off and walked round to the meeting point. Disconcertingly there didn't seem to be anyone there we met - apart form a couple of people.

The group was mainly made up of members of the Long Distance Walkers Association and they set off at a bit of a lick up the hill towards the heath. I was feeling a bit grumpy as there weren't many people I knew and my legs and knee really struggled with the hill at that pace.

Bob, Jane H and Dave H arrived not long after though so that was good. And eventually we made it onto the heath. The evening sunlight was beautiful and everything was a bit misty with all the earlier rain. Got to Parliament Hill and the views were of course great.

Then it was down towards Hampstead Heath station. By this time, my legs were complaining badly - so Dave and I opted out of the remaining 3 miles or so t Regent's Park. We found a pub just by the station and sat in their big garden with cider for Dave and a port and lemonade for me.

Then caught the overground to Highbury and Islington and the tube home.
