Birthday rhubarb martini with rose petals at Cote Brasserie

Sounded odd but was very delicious.

Birthday so had the day off. Dave gave me a couple of first presents before he went off to work - some organic handmade lip balm and a pretty necklace both picked up at the Hoe Street Market last week.

Took my time getting ready and breakfasting and ended up missing the overground I was aiming for - a bit irritating as they're only every 30 mins at the moment, because they haven't got enough trains ha ha.

But got the next one to Upper Holloway and then a bus to my mum's. Fixed her wifi access on her tablet and phone, and she gave me my present - a very pretty Arabia tulip ceramic wall ornament and a Moomin caddy.

I'd booked Cote Brasserie in Highgate for lunch - a nice branch this all light and airy. They do a good set lunch too - asparagus, sea bass, and then we shared a praline crepe with caramelised bananas - absolutely splendid stuff. And I got the drink free as it was my birthday.

Mum went off back home and I popped into the interesting looking bookshop and managed to buy books and lots of nice cards. Also had a quick look in the charity shops before getting the bus back to Upper Holloway to wait for overground.

Started to get very stormy looking - when I phoned Dave, it had been raining a lot in Enfield. The train was busy and I was initially cross as everyone rushed on and got all the seats though I did get one shortly after.

Dave was very late so we had rush to get back to mum's to help her hang the remaining pictures that we couldn't do last time because of the nimby neighbours and their house rules (no banging at weekends or after 8pm on weekdays).

Dave struggled with one of the walls - whole stones mixed in with the concrete looks like, though he did manage it eventually. Still very rainy.

Came home via the chippie and ate fish and chips watching Friends followed by the cakes mum had got us from the Muswell Hill patisserie.

Dave gave me the rest of my presents, a couple of cookbooks, the new book from Robert Macfarlane, 2 bottles of gin no less and birthday brownie. And best of all some ceramic blue tit earrings with matching brooch.
