Crostini and nibbles by the fire

All cosy in Anna's house - nibbles and drinks before the main course.

A busy morning getting ready and packing to stay with Anna for a few days. Not as complicated as previous years as we weren't doing our normal fancy dress - Anna is currently receiving treatment for cancer so we'd all decided to keep it simple.

Made a list, packed - took ages as usual - and generally tidied up and locked up - stuck the fruit and veg in the fridge and put the Tivo box on to record various things including the Doctor Who New Year's Day episode.

All took much longer than desired, so we skipped the big salmon brunch and just grabbed a bit of toast with salmon instead. Dave packed the car and checked the tyres and then we were off. A very easy quiet straightforward journey straight up the M1. A beautiful sunset with wonderful colours in the sky. In fact as we came out of a tunnel on the A406 the setting sun suddenly appeared through the tunnel end, an amazing huge golden ball.

Before getting to Anna's we stopped off at the Beeston Sainsbury's to get a bit of contributory food in plus some champagne. At Anna's found Sophie and the HMs already there getting the pre-dinner aperitifs and nibbles ready.

Took our stuff upstairs, made our bed then joined everyone downstairs in the cosy sitting room with the fire and Christmas tree for champagne and tasty crostini along with other nibbles.

Had some very nice pasta with Sophie's amaretto trifle to follow.
