And finally the parcel has arrived. Posted by my cousin in Finland mid-December. Late Christmas presents - very nice.
Woke early at 5.30 and seemingly couldn't get back to sleep - then it was suddenly 8.05 and I had to rush to get up as was due at the flat to let the gas engineer in. Got there well in time, making my way through the rather depressing drizzle.
Fiddled with the thermostat which as the tenant had said wasn't showing any info. Changed the batteries but it still didn't work.Gas engineer came - boiler and gas check all fine but thermostat is kaput. Will have to be replaced, poo. So I'll have to come back.
Good news, the major leak is definitely not leaking anymore, but there's a worsening damp patch in the spare bedroom and the toilet flush handle is loose. More poo.
Picked up an opera patisserie from Evelina's on the way back to take home to share with Dave. Opened our late Christmas presents and had a luxury lunch of fried halloumi before Dave went to plant bulbs and I watched a bit of Heroes.
Gas engineer called with thermostat price - all in with gas safety check, boiler service, callout etc will be £230. Could be worse I suppose.
Dave hasn't even lasted half way through dry January - he's off the wagon already having finally opened his Beerhawk crates.
I went to Tampere, home of the Moomin museum for a conference but failed to go and have regretted it ever since. They were at max out of fashion I think and also I wasn’t thinking straight as we’d flown out on 9/11 and everything was weird.
What a nice surprise - we got a late Christmas card yesterday with a nice long letter and some photographs. Always good to receive no matter when they arrive!
