This afternoon I discovered a new flower, the 'hippeastrum'. The place is the Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory, in Melbourne. http://www.fitzroygardens.com/Conservatory.htm
There were 5 different colours on display. I am told that their flowering period is very short.

I googled this , because I thought it was an amaryllis. Apparently the hipppeastrum is native to South America & the amaryllis is native to South Africa. But they are pretty much the same.
