thanks everyone. I had to consult 'Google' about the Rata / bottlebrush connection. Turns out they are cousins! (or from the same extended family!)

I see your note just above...what we call Bottle Brush, but it certainly has the distinctive look of the flora found in your region! In California I photographed swarms of hummingbirds enjoying it...do you have hummers there?

@Weezilou Hi Louise - no i don't think we have hummingbirds in NZ? - but i could be wrong about that! There is those a very cool bar in Wellington called the Hummingbird!!
