Daybreak by brotherone

Daybreak

I drive and walk by this sculpture several times every day. I decided to learn about it. It is called "Daybreak" and it was sculpted by Gilbert Franklin who studied and taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, a prominent art school in Providence. His bio is here: http://provincetownartistregistry.com/F/franklin_gilbert.htm

We take the beautiful things around us for granted, no? The sculpture is installed in what we locals call "RISD Beach". On spring and summer days, art students are sitting together here enjoying the sun, and sometimes there are student installations placed on the beach. The oddest installation I recall was a large gathering of toilet bowls. There was a message to be conveyed from the commode install that will forever be unknown to me. I was studying in the photography certificate program there for a time, but had to withdraw from a health issue. The program was highly intensive. David Byrne of Talking Heads fame and the rest of his band formed while studying at RISD and sowed their musical oats in Providence before moving onto bigger things.
Interesting sculpture and yes we take things for granted

That's the best thing 365 has taught me - to look a lot more carefully. I enjoyed reading your commentary - still puzzling over the sculpture and its name (guess that's why I had trouble with my fine arts class way back when).

@njmom3 @milaniet @jgpittenger Yes, I'm having a bit of trouble with finding daybreak. in the sculpture. I read a commentary that someone sees a person dancing a jig!
