The first thing I do when I came down in the morning is turn on my computer for the day and step out on the deck for a quick look around. out of the periphery of eye I saw something big in the driveway towards the road. there she was - Mrs. Mallard waddling towards the water filled ditch and wouldn't you know, her mate was already in it. this definitely was something I would not have expected, especially because we're so close to the lake.
I guess they were desperate for water...fast! haha I have seen that too...I heard some geese honking from afar one day as I walked in to work.I stood and waited as they flew over the trees...and then down into the small, muddy over flow "pond" below our culvert at school. I was like "how did they know it was there?" because they seemed to know!
@espyetta I quiet often ask myself that question and when I have no answer I say well it's instinct or oh well it's nature. we're only five houses away from the lake so way bother to come and look for water here.
1st - great collage and set of photos. 2nd, maybe they are looking for a private place to make a nest or something? you never know. wouldn't it be awesome it they had their babies in your back yard?
Great shots! And a great collage! I haven't been to the water in a bit to check to see if my ducks are still there. Been dealing with other stuff. This is a great display of both Mr. and Mrs. Mallard.
I think I saw an e-mail for a fav in between all the many e-mail coming in each day and it I remember correctly it was from you favoring this picture of the Mallard's. thank you so much Bev and also for spending your precious time commenting on all of my pictures. you deserve a hug.
Love your collage and what a fun site to see, Bruni. We have seen ducks cross the street going away from our park into the neighborhood across the street from it and wonder what they are doing. Guess the same thing happens at your house. I agree with what was said above as they may be looking for a place to nest. We had a favorite duck disappear during the mating season and just returned this last weekend. I wonder if she left or found a special spot to nest in the park. Interesting how they live and wander and come and go.
They go where the water is- we have some down the road in a very shallow pond- which is only there in the Spring. By summer it will be dry. Nice collage!
