Fall colors by bruni

Fall colors

I had to take a trip into the next town over, Newmarket and this time I took some side streets through a subdivision instead of a major road. almost past this house and something caught my eye. backed up and took another look. now my question is: why are part of the plants red and the rest is still green? am I looking at two different type of plants or does the sun not reach the right side of the house. when you look at the windows, you would think exactly the opposite. just curious.
love when the ivy is like this. It's red because it's the most far from the "foot" of the plant!

@parisouailleurs oh I see. so it starts changing colors from the top. will have to go back there a little later in the season to see if more will turn red. thank you Helene for the explanation.

Very funny in-between. I notice that trees here tend to change colors top to bottom, so maybe it is a similar process.

Great shot, Bruni! Love how that red stands out from the green. Great contrast. It kind of looks like a dragon about to eat its prey! Well done :)

Lovely contrast against the white building!!

How unusual. It looks like two different types of leaves turning different autumn colors, maybe? Well spotted and very pretty.

A great find, Side roads often have much beautiful to discover.

My thoughts are the same as Helene @parisouailleurs, although I don't know why that should be the case. Beautiful and striking.

'Fall colors' or as we, in England, would have it 'Autumn shades'. I am wondering if this is a Virginia Creeper which has turned completely scarlet from its green by the end of September. I once moved house on the 30th September and had to be hauled off kicking and screaming at having to leave mine.

@chessington Shirley I really don't know. it's not my house, just saw it in a subdivision.

When we were at Dartmouth the other day I noticed the ivy on the stadium doing the same thing. Good eye to spot the change!

All the ivy really makes it look like a cozy house. Good find.
