I don't know if you remember when I took a picture of a cottage at the lake close to the end of our street turning into Lake Drive. the cottage was lifted up to the height of a second level storey so they could build another storey underneath it.. well the cottage tipped over and was a total loss. after that happened, they fenced in the property and it remained like that for the longest time. finally, we saw that a new foundation was poured and again, the job was sop and go over a two year period. I stopped checking, but this morning Hans saw a police car driving by our house and turning into Lake Drive. he thought nothing of it. in the afternoon, coming home from my exercise at the Tannery, Hans mentioned it to me and when we turned into our street we saw a lot of trucks parked at the end of the road, so we passed our house and continued driving towards the lake and this is what we saw: the upper storey of a prefab home sitting on a low bed, ready to be attached to the first part of the prefab and the lower section of the hand built first storey. they either started the job the day before or this morning. I took some pictures and because it was so bitter cold and windy, I returned to our vehicle and Hans offered to stay out there and waited until they got everything ready to lift this part of the prefab. I must say, he took some wonderful pictures.
Tomorrow I'll post some of the pictures he took. you'll find them in my default and in album two.
This is fascinating! And given the cold weather, at least you don't have to go far from home to find your photo of the day. I'm looking forward the rest of the photos of this interesting story.
Very interesting. There are several "built from the ground up" homes in my town that were moved many years ago. The people moved them because they really liked the homes but not the location. Each of the houses looks a little out of place with the style of the houses around it, but who cares? Prefabs are certainly much easier to move, but still a sizable chore.
