Today is the first of Advent. by bruni

Today is the first of Advent.

While my husband was stringing up the Christmas lights around the railing of our deck, I worked on my Christmas decoration. we got some Christmas greens and I set out to make a display. usually I do it outside on the deck, but it was too cold and windy for me. so Hans brought our utility table in and I sat it up in front of my computer. I think Santa looks a little big too big for the small pot and so tomorrow I'll look for something else to replace him with, besides he would get wet and full of snow later on and his nice velvety coat would get ruined.
You are so artistic, Bruni!

Great view on and capture of you beautiful Advent decoration. In Holland this is not done, but I did have a German born Mother.
I see you Dracaena reach nearly to the ceiling . When it get to big just cut it of as low as you like You get new sprouts at the place you`ve cut it .

@pyrrhula Thank you for noticing. it already has a few cut offs on the bottom. maybe they keep on growing and the top will stay as it is. I guess that is wishful thinking of me.

Very cheery for the holiday! I was hoping to put up my lights today as well- but many of them were burnt out! So the greens went up and I'll pick up more tomorrow at the dollar store. I don't blame you for wanting to stay warm!

@bruni I think you cut off the leaves. That do n`t make no new sprouts. You`ve to cut of the stem. I did ours a few months ago . The old one starts again and I`ve plant the cut of`s. They are new growing now.

@pyrrhula Ferry. I never cut off leaves unless they're turning yellow. sometimes I cut off the brown tips. If the top gets a few more leave, we'll have to cut the top off. I do understand that. thanks for being such a good friend.

We can't have Santa getting wet - he has too much work to do. I certainly hope you will post a picture of the finished product for us and maybe the lights on the deck, too??

@pyrrhula I must tell you about my mother's plant. She passed away and I received the plant. My daughter replanted it for me as she has a green thumb like you. Later, as it grew, I cut pieces and rooted them in water. Then I sent pieces to my family to grow our mother's plant. She (the plant) now grows all over American and lives on. This is one of my favorite stories.

@stownsend . Thanks for sharing this lovely story.
@bruni . If you do the top soon it will be necessary again as it grows again near by the place you`ve cut it of. So go as low as it can.
In my time as florist I often got the a wish I would trim them. After a few I did n`t do it anymore. Why . I cut it of as low as possible so it get time to grow big again. The costumers where not pleased with it. They say I`ve no plant left. I replay wait a few months you`ll see. Often they stay angry with me.

@pyrrhula for waiting you have to be patient and most people including me have no patience. it's been this tall for the longest time already and when I have to cut the tips off, I will do as you said. further down to give it lots of time to grow that tall again. thank you, Ferry.

@stownsend Hi Suzie. I just read the story you told our friend @pyrhula. quite interesting. we do the same here. Hans and I had a Dieffenbachia for more than 40 years. every time it got to be too big, he would cut into the stem on an angel, wrap plastic around it and fill it with earth and keep it moist until some roots would grow in the plastic bag at which time he would cut the stem off and replant it into another pot. then he cuts the remaining stem off, cuts it into smaller pieces and roots them in water. many of these pieces have found new homes. may daughter has one that has grown as high as the ceiling and is now leaning into a corner in her living room. healthy as can be. we still have one on the go too.

It looks so festive. Too bad Santa is outside and you cannot leave him there as he looks great there. FAV
