Although an old recipe, Hans knows them from when his late mom baked them and his sister gave him the recipe in 2010 on our last visit. why it took him 5 years to try it out, I don't know. he loves cooking and baking. so here they are. in Germany they're called Berliner Brot. (bread from Berlin) he cut them up into smaller pieces and let them dry out for two days, when dry they go into a Christmas tin. they will still get harder and last almost forever.
