If you are a newcomer and haven't been informed how to hold the boot the proper way, your buddies will have some fun with by telling you to drink it in one go. they now fill the glass with beer and pass it to you in such a way that the tip of the boot will be up when you drink it. after several swallows a little air will get into the boot tip and the rest of the beer will rush out and splash into your face. the proper way to hold the glass is with the tip down when you start and rotate the boot while drinking to empty the boot tip very slowly.
this way it will not splash into your face.

@gijsje Yes in a way, Bep My husband brought them with him from Germany. when I asked him today what I can tell about them, he told me how not to drink from them unless you know how. you see, I don't drink beer and never heard the story before now.
