So although I put water out for Mr Blackbird today, he was not showing off, but Mrs Blackbird was strutting her stuff on the shed, being watched by a very inquisitive pigeon and a red kite.
What a wonderful day.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have never seen Blackbirds do this and to have a male doing it on Monday and a female on Tuesday, it must be a mating thing?
She spent ages on the shed roof, fanning out her tail feathers and wings and then sitting motionless with her mouth wide open. @olivetreeann@triciaodonnell@wenbow@ariel817
I have just found this on an RSBP site - 'Blackbirds like to sunbathe too, on a sunny day they fluff out their feathers, spread their wings and sit with their heads back and beak open. The sunshine is good for their feathers, they get vitamin D from the sun which helps make their feathers strong.' !!
Great birdy collage - superb red kite, an elegant pigeon (a rare sight!) and another sunbathing bird!! I think you should provide them with tiny sun-loungers and towels and maybe those green eye shade things ...
Thank you so much for your research Patricia, this would make sense as they appeared to be sun bathing.
It was a great day for bird watching in the garden yesterday. @tishpics
