Apr 14: Hartwell Spring by bulldog

Apr 14: Hartwell Spring

A was not too happy with my (un-natural) spring on Friday, so today I took a drive out to the only natural spring that I could find, local to me.

This is Hartwell Springs, also know as Egyptian Well.
There is a local tradition that when Julius Caesar invaded Britain, he found a hart drinking at a well or spring; hence the name. The water is supposed to cure weak eyes and several other complaints"
The water emerges from a small pipe from the bank beside the road.
Opposite the Hartwell is a grandiose structure known as the Egyptian Well. Benches line the walls, and at the front of the building was a small recess containing the water.
Really cool. Loved your description of the history.

Wow. Around here you'll just find a tin cup hanging on a branch next to a natural spring and you can sit on a fallen log or pine needles to enjoy your refreshment.

Good shot. This is a lovely spring! Most springs here are just pools. Some old farmsteads might have a spring house, which is like a small stone shed over the spring.

Well I never knew that was there. Did you have a drink while you were there? It looks very pretty but I'm not sure I'd be that thirsty
