"The Royal Standard" in Widmer End, Bucks.
This used to be my local and although the pub dates back to around 1832, it sadly closed on the 2nd Nov 2010 and is now being sold to be converted into a house.
I have some great memories of this place and life has not been the same since it closed.
That is such a shame. The same thing has happened to us, our village pub is now an Indian restaurant. Our neighbouring villages pub is now a domestic house. It takes the heart out of a place.
That is sad, but at least it won't just be a vacant building. What's really sad is that we don't have hardly any pubs here at all. We do have a lot of country and western clubs and sports bars.though :)
So many pubs closing - that's very sad. At least this one will still be used. I can't remember the name of the pub just outside Prestwood that closed but it was a beautiful flint and brick building (would have loved it to live in if I had the pennies) and it was demolished :'(
I always liked the sound of 'pubs'. Any book I read gave them such a nice feel. I feel sad that they are closing down so many. Only good thing is that beautiful building will still be used.
