Nov 26: Landmark

Yes.. Another bloody Landmark left by Wycombe Bloody Council !
There are so many now it's nearly getting to the point where the roads are just 1/2 inch lower and the tarmac causes little bumps.
Perhaps your rates aren't high enough?

You have these landmarks too!!! So do we, in particular after a heavy shower of rain. How come the Romans knew how to build roads and they didn't even have computers and the local council have everything modern and they can't make one that lasts a shower of rain.

My anger is rising again. I destroyed 2 tyres and 2 wheel rims driving into one in August and am still waiting for the council's decision whether to pay up or not! I would say lovely capture but I am not going to - I hate the blinkin' things!!

What gets me is how can they get it so wrong?! Down our little cul de sac there is a hole they have filled this year that is already a hole again! A sad but fitting shot for the day.

that must be so annoying! but nevertheless a great shot for today! :)

They cut costs by not using the proper stuff to repair roads ( or make them in the first place). Maddening and so dangerous.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr certainly loads of landmarks here too, takes a year to repair them badly and bang, come the snow they are gone again.....very good talking point Bulldog!!
November 26th, 2012
Wow, looks like someone should fix them. Cool capture, though.

Good shot of the infamous landmark. Our city department fills in the potholes ineffectively and they pop out before the next time to fill them in. I have noticed a pattern with the local elections. Perhaps you need an upcoming election so the potholes will be fixed just in time for the current officials to be re-elected.

Oh we have those in the spring, best to avoid them...I know people who have dissappeared in our, nice shot!
November 27th, 2012
We call them pot-holes! They are annoying and worse when there's lots of freeze and warm cycles that cause frost heaves! Sooner or later they need to take the paving right down again and re-pave to get a lasting finish.
November 27th, 2012
This seems to be a world wide problem! We live on a cup de sac that is a gravel road and we also suffer these pot holes!
November 27th, 2012
@maggiemae - Don't go there Maggiemae, just don;t do there.

@joluise - It's crazy isn't it...

@streetlyend - My wifes car had to have £300+ of suspension work done to her car because of some monster pot holes on her way to work. The council won't pay because we can not confirm the actual day the damage happened, even though the pot-hole were there for months!

Ahhhhh....! That's enough ranting, thank you all for your comments and stories.

Aw, what a mess. . .we had a mild enough winter last year that for once, we haven't been so plagued. What makes me laugh now - having just come back through what was our old home in Florida - is remembering how even there with no snow and ice ever, the SINKholes were just as prevalent and sometimes considerably more vexing, once swallowing a whole house and yard near our neighborhood!
November 27th, 2012
@daisy Unfortunately, the area we live in is a Tory stronghold, and so local elections don't mean a huge amount. In theory we get more money at us during a Tory government, but it's not working like that.

Graham, have you seen the one along by Four Ashes Road? Filled in a couple of months ago, now back to the bedrock.
November 28th, 2012
Well I quite like the look of this...were you going for a marbled effect?
November 28th, 2012
I feel your pain. Not that there are many potholes around here at the moment. They fixed the road up at the north end of the estate pretty well last year; even gave us a sidewalk.

The city centre, however, sometimes seems like a never ending nightmare. To its citizens, Oslo is often know as 'The City Of Holes'; there's digging and road work everywhere.

Not to mention when the new street cars (trams) came a few years ago. They were so heavy they broke the tracks, the streets cracking up under them. Strangely enough, getting lighter street cars with more seats never struck the city council as a good idea. No, they dug up every street with tram tracks and put down new reinforced concrete foundation. That must have been cheaper than getting sensible street cars. Go figure...
