The little people look a little confused by the book I brought home today. I don't think they have ever seen a Marris Dancer before.
The book describes Morris Dancing as: "Another survival from ancient times, which originated in rites connected with the fertility of the soil and the food supply... The numbers and costumes of the dancers vary considerably, but there are usually six or eight men in a 'side', and they may be accompanied by such characters as the Hobby Horse, the Fool and Maid Marian."
- Sounds like my kind of party!
Love it! Wondering where the little people were! Love the one on the roof! Morris Dancers visit our local pub in the summer much to the horror of my husband who is suspicious of any man wearing bells on his legs!
Ha! I remember explaining what morris men do, to a young George, before our first may day here in the village. He asked 'why?' and I couldn't answer. Little did he know he'd be joining in a few years later (but he doesn't any more.... I have to add). Your little people look equally confused.
Wow, thank you all for your comments. I have to agree that the little people do look a little wrong, maybe I should have lied then all on their side?
I brought this book that day from my favorite book-shop (see link below), although it is quite interesting, there is only one page on Buckinghamshire (where I live now) and nothing on Hertfordshire (where I grew up). http://365project.org/gphelps5/365/2012-09-09

Really like how you got the little ones to interact with the cover illustration. ;-)
