Mar 11: The Gate by bulldog

Mar 11: The Gate

I had a day off today and after freezing my bits off, washing my car this morning (the water was actually freezing as I sploshed it on), I took myself off for a well deserved pint in the local village of Bryants Bottom in the Chiltern Hills.

The Gate is a traditional country pub set in the beautiful countryside village. This Freehouse Inn dates from 1864 and is the perfect setting for a family get together or a stroll in the country. It is a popular watering hole for walkers, cyclists and tourists alike and is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with fantastic rural scenery.

They stock an extensive range of locally brewed Real Ales (for the real men), and imported beers (for the boys) as well as carefully selected wines (for the ladies) and Champagnes (how posh).

Anyway, the weather was shite but the beer was great.

Happy Monday Everyone!
Thanks again Sean

And what a good excuse for your word of the day (you planned this word for your day off didn't you?). Glad you had a nice pint, looks a lovely pub!

Yes this sounds like very good planning on your part!! LOL!! It sounds like a great pub - just the place to be on a freezing cold day like today - do they have a log fire? That would make it perfect!!

Hahaha! Well planned. Day Off. Appropriate word of the day. Pub. Good call!

It was not planned, I just googled 'The Gate' and found this one about 6 miles away. It was the first time I have been there and it's a lovely little pub, with a real log fire Pam.

Looks like a nice pub with no riftraft or hooligans at it.I could see how a fella after walking a block or two would want for a pint or so.

@gphelps5 Not much these days as we don't go to Speen as we used to when the kids were little - they're now all grown up and not donkey fans any longer!

Imported beers for the boys and Alex P. He can't hack the ale. Did they have Rebellion on tap? It looks like a lovely pub.

Bottom and bits don't set a very good trend for this lovely pub - so very English looking!

I'm torn... I just can't decide what I'm more impressed by ... your creativity... your images... or your brief, descriptive narratives... Regardless, I love it all!

Great sign. Not exactly where you would expect to find a gate. Very clever to Google it and find it close by.
