Just for a bit of fun, I had my first go at double axis turning, where you turn most of the product on one axis and then change to make, in this case the divot for the Crystal Ball to rest in.
I hope to make a pen out of the same wood (you can just about see the light/dark stripe on the top rough cut piece. I will the carefully drill a hole for it to sit in, in the darker side of the main block.
