Step Short Arch

The Step Short Arch at the top of the Road of Remembrance in Folkestone, Kent. Soldiers on their way to the Western Front between 1914 and 1918 would have heard the order to 'Step Short', i.e. shorten their stride in order to negotiate the gradient of the hill safely.
