Orchid

My son bought me this orchid a few years ago at Christmas. It hasn't flowered every year but this year it has five flower stems! It really needs re-potting as the centre of the plant is dead, but I'm putting off the job in case it never flowers again. Does anyone have any tips on re-potting orchids?
Sorry orchids are not my thing but I hope you receive some good advice elsewhere because this is so beautiful.

It's a lovely bloom, there seems to be a quite helpful set of instructions/hints on "orchid.org.uk/orchidpotting.htm". The alternative is for me to take it back to Malaysia when I go in three weeks. They're growing wild there - it seems wrong somehow.!

Lovely shot.I have never been overly successful with orchids and when they're not in bloom I lose patience as they take up so much space. My daughter has just brought me a cutting in a bottle from Thailand....we wait with baited breath...!

Lovely shot - looked up Dr Hessayon "House Plant Expert". He says - do not worry if a few roots grow outside the pot. Repot only when growth begins to suffer. They appreciate being pot bound but after a few years may be repotted using special orchid compost. Good luck!

@moominmomma A cutting in a bottle - that sounds interesting. The orchid photographed is a cymbidium which is very large and does take up a lot of space. However the moth orchids take up very little space. I lost all my small ones last year in the conservatory - too cold!
