I finally got my church banner finished and it was dedicated this morning. It shows three African ladies, and as the theme for this year's harvest was Mali in west Africa it seemed a suitable time to hang it up! For those of you who don't know the story, I went to Uganda in 2009 as part of a church group and brought back some scraps of fabric from the local dressmaker. She was so grateful for the orders we gave her for our African outfits that she was able to pay for her children's school fees with the money she made. I used the fabric scraps for the dresses in the banner.
I was so surprised and delighted to see yesterday's picture on the PP! Thanks so much to each and every one of you for your fav's and comments.
3 good things:-
1) banner finished
2)PP entry
3)and most important of all - we are all so privileged to have enough food to eat every day
Love your three good things & congratulations on your PP, well deserved. This is a wonderful project you have been doing & the perfect use of those special pieces of materiel, a truly long lived memento of your trip to Uganda & the good that came out of it.
Judith, the banner looks so great. 3 of my work friends are going to Uganda in 4 weeks time as part of a charity project working with children s education.
I love the story and the colorful harvest spread. We have a large Somali population nearby and I have fashion envy when I see the bright colors and comfy fit of their dresses. If someone could make the western-African hybrid dress, they could make a fortune. And it would be a big step forward for the melting pot (American metaphor for blending our diverse cultures).
Your banner and harvest table look wonderful well done! Thanks for sharing your story about your trip to Uganda. My daughter is soon to go to Rwanda with a group from our church and I'm sure she will come back changed from the trip and have many stories to tell.
