'When chestnuts are hanging above the school-yard,
They are little green sea-mines, spiky and hard.
But when they fall bursting and all the boys race,
Each shines like a jewel in a satin case.'
'Clive Sansom'
The first conkers of the season always remind me of this little rhyme found in a Ladybird children's book.
Thanks for looking, commenting and Faving my gerbera picture - it made the PP - whooppee!
Three great things about this photo:
1) the leaves look like potato chips 2) the nut appears to be wearing a crown 3) they have a funny name. Are they chestnuts?
@klh Thanks for your comments. I agree about the crown, I never noticed that. Yes they are chestnuts but not the sweet variety which is made into flour, and are often roasted at Christmas time.
