I received a garden voucher for Mother's Day from my son last year and as I have always wanted a Camellia, that's what I bought. It was bought at the end of the season and was a half price special offer. I've nurtured it in ericaceous soil over the past year and it now has lots of buds on. I'm going on holiday next week so think I will have to ask a neighbour to look after it while I'm away - it's not been subjected to the extremes of this winter 's weather so it may object to being outside all of a sudden.
Lovely shot of a lovely flower Judith. One of my camellias has buds on it but the other bigger one hasn't got a single bud yet it flowered last year. I'm not sure why. They have both been outside the front door all winter and the smaller one with the buds is nearer the shelter of the house so I wonder whether that has anything to do with it
I am always so impressed with camelias Judith, all those big fat buds in the very cold weather & then the flowers come out..I think they are very hardy indeed. You did well buying it at just the right time because they are very expensive!
That is beautiful - what a gorgeous colour. I must have a look at my camellia tomorrow and see if any sign of flower buds. It took a terrible hammering 2 years ago and I thought it was dying but has recovered with lots of green. We had 2 blossoms last year but it's on our east wall (not recommended!!!) and we've had a lot of cold east wind for weeks.
Enjoy your one - it's lovely!
