The next day we went to this early 4th century site in the centre on Sicily. It was in constant use until the 12th century when it was covered by a mud slide. It was then hidden from view until excavations began in 1950 revealing the most incredible Roman mosaics. In this picture I've tried to show the extent and quality of the mosaics which are kept undercover and viewed from raised walkways, although there a huge number of very well preserved and intricate mosaics showing animals, patterns, Olympic events, and a variety of scenes.
A really interesting place to visit with all that history. After being buried in mud you wouldn't think any of the colours would survive but your photo shows them so well. Great picture.
