We visited the abandoned town of Belchite in the Spanish province of Aragon. After a two week long battle in 1937, they finally surrendered on September 1st. It was decided to leave the town as it was, a smoking ruin with its destroyed buildings and corpses, as a powerful reminder of the devastation of the Spanish civil war. 6,000 people lost their lives here. The new town has been built alongside the old city.
