We had just returned from a lovely walk in the sunshine when this hailstorm took us by surprise. This is taken from the front door with the water and hailstones swirling towards the flooded drains. We have lived here for 30 years and never seen anything like this. Don't worry though it was short lived and we live on top of a hill so the water soon drained away. I took lots of better photos this afternoon but thought I'd post this one as a record shot.
We had to stop in the campervan till the hail storm ended my iPhone had gone flat so I lost the photo opportunities of the storm. We (me Nick and 5 dogs) had to paddle our way in to my flats, the paths were all flooded!
I lived in Kenya for three years and in the long rains we got that every afternoon with hail stones the size of golf balls! Normally you could predict its start fairly accurately but if you got caught out you just ran to the nearest house and sheltered with them there. I once stopped in the most amazing traditional round house - no deafening noise like in the mbate (corrugated iron) roofed buildings at the school where I taught as those hail stone clattered down! It could be for as long 2 hours.
Great shot. I hope no windows or cars were damaged in the hail. My daughter had hail damage to her car a few years ago. Hail here the size of tennis balls and her car was severely damaged. the surface looked like a golf ball.
