We walked towards the lighthouse but sadly just missed the opening time. The lighthouse has been standing since 1792 but the nearby keeper's cottages were demolished in the 1950's. The old coastguard lookout station is the tumble-down building just in front. These pieces of rusting iron left on the shingle beach were probably left over from a temporary roadway when the site was used as a weapons testing site in the early 1900's. The site is managed by the /national Trust but there's quite a bit of work to do around this very large site.
