Potala Palace, Tibet by busylady

Potala Palace, Tibet

This impressive palace was the former residence of the present Dalai Lama, now in exile in India. The palace is a Unesco World Heritage site and sits at 3,700 metres above sea level. It was quite a climb to the top but we managed it despite having to stop for breath every 20 steps or so.
Wow, what a palace and I'm sure worth the climb (even if it took a while). Fantastic photo.

A wonderful building, I could never manage those steps, though

It is a magnificent ok ace but looks quite deserted. Aren't rptherthere any monks living there now or have they all fled?

Fabulous capture.

@happypat Yes there were plenty of monks about but you wouldn't have seen them from this distance. Also the steps had quite high walls so I'm not sure you'd have seen them behind the walls. We were advised not to take close ups of people unless we'd asked permission although I did sneak a few.

An Impressive Palace and a lot of steps to get a closer look but I am sure it was worth it even just for the view. A super capture against the lovely sky.
