'On November 9 1989, as the Cold War began to thaw across Eastern Europe, the spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party announced a change in his city's relations with the West. Starting at midnight that day, citizens of the GDR were free to cross its country's borders.' (Thanks to Google for the text)
We visited what remains of the wall in 2018, a very emotional and memorable visit . The inset is a piece of the wall given to us by a very dear German friend.
Phil danced on that wall, the night it fell! I had come back to the uk in the August, ( our posting was nearing its end & I had the chance of a job). When I left there was no sign that it was going to be coming down at all! We lived in Berlin for four years. It’s a fabulous place & one of my favourite cities!
Nice shot.
Such a fabulous capture and emotional setting. We were living in Tokyo at the time, hubby was on a business trip in Germany. I will never forget that day, he called to tell me what had just happened. I find it so amazing that it fell on the same day as the horrific Reichs kristal nacht in 1939.
I do t think anyone who saw the night the wall came down will ever forget those images! It might not have been evening actually but I seem to remember it was late in the day as Harry was in after milking. What a time that was…how amazing to go & look.
