HM Endeavour

This is a replica of the famous ship commanded by Captain James Cook. We are staying in Whitby for a few days and it was here that preparations were made for Cook's first voyage to Newfoundland. The ship was launched here and set sail from Plymouth in August 1768. We had heavy rain soon after I took the picture, luckily we were in the tea shop by then!
Thanks for all your comments and favs recently and for getting my pictures on to the PP
I like it!

Were you there with the Goth's at the weekend ? Some great photos to be had in Whitby especially with the Goth's in town

This confused me for a minute! It came up in my feed right after a photo from someone else who lives in the Toronto area. Since we also have a Whitby around here, I completely misunderstood and thought the replica Endeavour was in Lake Ontario! I was about to ask how long it would be there, lol!

Anyway, great photo! I love how the ship pops against the grey clouds, and I like the seagulls!

A nice shot despite the threatening sky. This is on my list of things to see. Last time I was in Whitby it was still based in Stockton. A couple of months ago it was up for sale, so there must be a strong likelihood that it will be moved again, so there is a question if I will get to Whitby in time to see it.

Nicely caught, we haven’t been to Whitby for three years, I have missed the sights and smells.
