It was shoebox Sunday today, when all the filled shoeboxes were collected. However, we also have a huge amount of items which are donated to be used in packing up even more boxes. We were asked to stay behind today to help to fill another 100 boxes. All the tables are piled high with sorted items such as soap, wash cloths and toothbrushes; hats, gloves and scarves; toys; teddies and soft toys; bags and purses; stationery items such as pencils, pens and exercise books. The boxes on the floor are the 100 boxes each with one starter toy relating to age (2-4, 5-9, 10-14) and sex. Lots of fun and easy to find the items needed.
Two thirds of the boxes this year will go to Ukraine.
We dropped ours off at a shop in our region yesterday, but we don't know where it will go. In years gone by, they've had a special label you could put on if it was specifically for Ukraine, which was nice because then we'd be sure to include warm winter stuff that we wouldn't likely put in otherwise. We know that boxes sent from Canada will go to a list of ten countries, but no idea which to where or what the proportions are to be.
