Christchurch cathedral was very badly damaged in the earthquake of February 2011. This is what is left of their historic building. The steel framework was put up to help save the rose window but sadly the second earthquake caused the steel bars to butt up against the wall and the window was lost. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the future of the building. Some people would even like to see it pulled down and a new one built in its place. It's tragic. We have signed the petition to try to save this iconic building.
How sad Judith, Harry & I stood outside this cathedral not that long ago so to see it like this is very disappointing. I would vote for it to be saved too.
I have seen that in some places they are using ship containers for shops.
We saw some demolition back in 2012 and I had assumed the whole building had been pulled down. I'm so glad it is still standing - just. I hope it is rebuilt, I know it is the subject of much controversy.
