Look who's there. this Downy woodpecker drumming at the wood on our deck!
This photo is a little fuzzy, i had to take it through the patio door window, because whenever I opened the door to snap a photo, he flew off. Saw him yesterday but missed my chance, today I was pleased to see him back.
Woodpecker trivia: did you know - most have toes that face forwards and also toes that face backwards (some fancy sounding name for that - slips my memory). But it helps them climb well and have super grip while they're drumming/pecking at the wood.
Nice photo. Through the patio door window and all. But I wonder why he's pecking at your patio rail. I thought that when they peck at a tree, it's to get at any insects that might be inside the trunk or branch.
I don't know, we thought maybe he was trying to get a females attention. We only have a couple little trees in our yard.
