I have been driving across the bridge in the front for over 20 years... I cross it twice a day when I work. This vertical-lift bridge crosses the St. Croix River between Stillwater, Minnesota, and Houlton, Wisconsin. It connects Minnesota State Highway 36 and Wisconsin Highway 64. The middle section lifts to let boats pass under.... EVERY 30 minutes during summer from about 8 am till 1030 pm. I can't tell you how many times I have been sitting in backed up traffic waiting for the bridge. Plus if there's ever an accident, or scheduled maintenance, traffic gets rerouted, and adds about 25 min to my commute.
The bridge in the background is new - has been in the works for 2 years ( and talked about for as long as I can remember). It is scheduled to open this fall. I have to believe it will make my commute quicker / less stressful
The internet states that around 18,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily.
@moonmtn I know! I am one of the odd ducks that rolls their car windows down whenever I cross... yes, even in Winter. If the bridge were to collapse, I want to make sure I can get out! (I'm weird, I know).
Thank you all so much!
Great shot of those two beautiful bridges and the river.
