A personal, sentimental photo today... this is a photograph of a portrait of my mother. She would have been 79 years old today, Although she has been a resident of heaven since 1995, thoughts of her always bring a smile to my face! She left a legacy of love and compassion, of generosity and giving. My mother was principal of a school for special needs children. Following her death, the school was re-named in her memory and this portrait hangs in the lobby there. She was inducted into the Educators Hall of Fame this past year, and it warms my heart that she is still remembered by her colleagues and students.
My mother loved sports, and was named Most Athletic her senior year in high school. I always think of her during the Olympics... she loved watching them so! But even as she sat in front of the television, her hands were busy... folding clothes, cutting out craft projects for her Sunday School class, or putting together packets for the Special Learning Center. She was an avid supporter of Special Olympics.
Mom had a plaque that hung on the wall at our house that really was her life's mission statement... 'Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." ~Albert Einstein. And she lived it out every day of her life! Her greatest joy was knowing that she was fulfilling her God-given purpose, making a difference in the lives of others. I am so blessed to call her Mom!
What a wonderful tribute to your mother. She was an amazing woman who left a great legacy. She left too early. Keep alive her memory and the ideals for which she lived by.
@danette Thank you, Danette! I could not have had a more wonderful mother! And yes, she left this world far too soon, only 62 years old... a victim of breast cancer. How I wish my son could have known his grandmother... he was only 3 and his memories of her are few. But her life continues to influence mine, each and every day!
What a beautiful tribute to your Mom, Cathy. She truly was a beautiful person ..inside and out. Love her portrait and your comment was so heartfelt. Bless you.
Such a lovely, elegant looking woman, and what a wonderful tribute to her memory. I know you must be proud of her many accomplishments. Mothers are so special!
Thank you for sharing your memories of your Mom with us today. What a gift to have such a beautiful woman grace your lives. I am sure losing her was a seemingly unacceptable reality. She seems wonderful.
oh, she sounds like an amazing woman! you did an excellent job of sharing who she was and still is! A great photo of her portrait and the flowers beside it really add to it.
What a wonderful mother! If everyone lived to that standard the world would be a better place. You must be so proud of her accomplishments and thankful to have such a spirit in your life.
Just caught up with this lovely shot. I'm smiling about the always busy hands bit because that's my mum (she's the same age) - must be a teacher thing. Taken from you far too young but what an impact she clearly made and still being honoured.
