Verity, Ilfracombe, Devon

Had to go and see what all the fuss was about. Damien Hurst's new statue on display in the small town if Ilfracombe in Devon. It has attracted lots of tourists and created a bit of a boom for local businesses. It features a pregnant female and half of her is cut away to expose muscles and the baby. I have also uploaded a close up.
That is a very creepy dramatic statue. I can see what all the fuss is about.

I agree with Sheila. Very unusual statute. Good capture though.

Wow! I'd totally love to see that! Why is the "protective" barrier and netting around the base?

@kwiksilver its only recently gone up so I think there will be railings eventually. It's right on the edge of the harbour. I think there is some fear of vandalism. It has had a very mixed response. :)

Nothing like I've seen before. I hope it doesn't get vandalized!

Incredible. Empowering with her sword. Protective mother, don't get in her way. Would be great for a homebirth campaign too. Are people offended by her breast and her mons pubis just hanging out there?

You have shown the statue well in your shot. I thought it looked awful in the paper but it looks quite different here. It maybe something you need to see for real to judge.

It is pretty freaky looking. I am always a bit confused about my reaction to his work.
