Today is Florence Nightingale’s Birthday. In recent years it has been designated International Nurses Day.
This is three photos of me in uniform over the years (L-R) 1988 BMH Berlin (excuse the big glasses, they were fashionable at the time), 1999 Lincolnshire (when we still wore dresses with belts & our treasured silver buckles), 2019 Lincolnshire, no dress no buckle & certainly no hats! In my time there have been a lot of changes & not all for the good! Since Miss Nightingale set up her hospital at Scutari (Turkey) during the Crimean War, there have been many many changes, I wonder if she would recognise her “ baby”.
Lovely triptych, lots of changes in uniforms over the years. I have a photo of my Mum when she was a nurse and the uniform was so different back in 1930 when she started training.
What a wonderful collage/record Carole its about time every one of you get the recognition you deserve, thank you each and every one of you, I for one needed your services a few times both in St Georges and Lincoln County in my youth in Lincolnshire :)
Nurses are really such unsung heroes! While the fashions have changed through the years, your dedication never wavers. Thanks for being there for the patients and caring for them. Great collage to show your journey!
wonderful to see the change over time. Yes, agree, Florence will get a surprise, but then she was ahead of her time and very forward-thinking, she might just approve

@pcoulson St George’s doesn’t exist any more ( except as some sort of physical rehab place) . The county hospital is obviously still there , but I have never worked there ( I work in a nursing home). I actually trained in Leicester, it was husbands military career that brought me to Lincolnshire.
