Expectant mothers, mothers & babies & the odd male. These & many more littered along this sandy stream. Sometimes it’s peaceful, sometimes if mothers feel threatened by other mothers they are very vocal & hit out at each other. Makes for an interesting few hours watching them.
There are two fences, probably about two foot apart, so you wouldn’t be able to lean over & touch. After that it depends how near they come. Most were at least 10 metres or more away.
They are not terribly graceful out of the water & kind of “ lollop” along!
@carole_sandford Thankfully they can’t get through the fence and their are enough wardens to stop humans from being stupid.
On Sea Lion Island in the South Atlantic, we were always told to “stay the island side of the fence.” Shame the Elephant Seals didn’t stay the sea side of the fence.
How far away are you kept from them so as not to disturb them Carole??
