We had a trip “up north” & spent about four hours wandering around the ruins of this abbey, which must have been magnificent in its day, before Henry VIII decided to desolve the monasteries after his break with Rome! We also walked around Studley Royal water gardens which are kind of attached/ next door. Beautiful scenery & beautiful weather today!
Did much of our courting in this area and have lots of memories of Fountains as it was and as it is now with its whizzy hedged car parks and posh visitors courtyard. You and Phil made me smile today.
Memories for me too, used to love playing on the stepping stones as a kid. Visited there when we were back a few years ago. Was shocked at how busy it had got
Such a shame it is beautiful, but would be better if it was intact. I'm surprised the locals didn't use much of it for building materials. I know that has happened at other ruins.
